Lisa M Locke-Downer PhD
I treat patients with a wide range of anxiety and impulse control disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia, Separation Anxiety, OCD, and Trichotillomania. I have worked with patients with PANDAS/PANS-related OCD. I also treat patients with co-occurring disorders, such as ADHD, depression, and ASD. Given the variety of my practice, patients with OCD comprise 10-20% of my caseload at any given time.
I have worked with patients who have other disorders in addition to anxiety/OCD, such as ADHD, ASD, developmental disabilities, and depression. After an intake assessment I help the patient set goals regarding their treatment priorities, then we develop a treatment plan based in cognitive-behavioral interventions. My work is collaborative and I consult with other disciplines (psychiatry, primary care) as needed.
I completed my postdoctoral training at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in 2002-03, with a pediatric psychology and cognitive-behavioral training focus. I have treated patients with OCD for the past 15 years, first through my work at the University of Virginia, and then in private practice at ACES. I have attended continuing education workshops over the years through the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. I joined IOCDF in July 2018 to meet more clinicians in my field and to further my training.
Diversity Statement:
Our practice has resources for treating patients with hearing or visual impairments. We have clinicians who are deaf as well as hearing providers who are fluent in ASL.
I have attended continuing education workshops about cultural competency and working with diverse populations. Working in a group practice that provides services to clients with hearing and visual impairments has also improved my cultural competency.
