Gena Hicks PhD
I currently have 11 clients on my caseload who have OCD or an OC-Related disorder–which is approximately 20%. I have treated more than 50 clients with OCD over the course of my career
In addition to OCD, I treat Illness Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, panic, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, mood disorders, and phobias. I frequently work with individuals who experienced chronic childhood trauma and have Complex PTSD. I offer EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy for those processing trauma. I incorporate DBT and mindfulness skills.
I have been practicing full-time as a licensed psychologist since 2005. Since the onset of my practice, CBT has been foundational in my treatment of a wide variety of mood and anxiety disorders. The treatment of OCD and Illness Anxiety has gradually emerged as specialities in my practice since 2015. I attend virtual trainings on OCD and read reputable books on the treatment of OCD. I am on the waitlist to attend a BTTI training in 2024-25.
I desire and eagerly welcome clients with diverse identities different than my own!
I have experience working with international students in university settings, and with Asian, Black, Native, and Latinx American clients. I had the privilege of working with U.S. military veterans at a VA medical center for 4 years. I seek out cultural competency in continuing education–e.g, most recently a workshop called “What’s New in Genderland: Living in a Nonbinary World – Evolving Professional Guidelines and Therapeutic Practice” sponsored by my state’s psychological association.
