Emily Austin LCSW
My practice, Emily Austin Therapy, specializes in treating anxiety and OCD, with approximately 75% of my caseload consisting of clients with OCD (mostly pure OCD). I provide Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), tailored to help clients break free from obsessive-compulsive cycles and regain control of their lives. I also offer support for co-occurring issues such as anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt.
I am an LCSW specializing in anxiety and OCD, with experience treating these conditions since 2022. I founded Emily Austin Therapy in 2024 to focus on providing specialized care for individuals with OCD and related disorders. My training includes completing Jon Abramowitz’s OCD/ERP course, additional OCD/ACT/ERP webinars, and ongoing Rumination-Focused ERP training with Dr. Michael Greenberg. I am currently on the waitlist for BTTI. As someone with lived experience managing Pure OCD through ERP, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to my work.
I have extensive experience working with multicultural populations, particularly during my time at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office in the Victim Services Unit, where 90% of my clients were people of color. This experience deepened my understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including systemic barriers, trauma, and intersectional identities. In my private practice, I continue to provide culturally responsive care, tailoring therapy to honor each client’s experiences, values, and strengths. My approach prioritizes creating a safe and inclusive space where clients feel seen, respected, and understood.
I have completed numerous trainings on cultural competency and best practices for working with people of color. While earning my MSW at Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in Harlem, I gained experience working with marginalized populations through my field practicums. Additionally, several of my courses focused on cultural awareness, systemic inequities, and anti-oppressive practices. This foundation, combined with my professional experience, has strengthened my ability to provide inclusive and culturally responsive care, tailoring therapy to meet the unique needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
